9. Relation to Code of Professional Responsibility

a. NOTARY PUBLIC ALSO A LAWYER

A notary public is a lawyer whose actions are subject to the Code of Professional Responsibility. Thus, the canons and rules apply to the notary public, including disciplinary action for violations.

A lawyer who notarizes documents without a notarial commission, and assists and abets the unauthorized practice of law by a non-lawyer, deliberately violates the Lawyer’s Oath and transgresses the canons of the Code of Professional Responsibility. He thereby manifests a lack of respect for the law and dishonesty, and deserves to be severely punished. (Muntutero v. Alberto, A.C. No. 12289, 02 April 2019)
