7. Lawyers authorized to represent the government

a. Same standing as duly authorized member of the bar

Any official or other person appointed or designated in accordance with law to appear for the Government of the Philippines shall have all the rights of a duly authorized member of the bar to appear in any case in which said government has an interest direct or indirect. (Section 33, Rule 138, Rules of Court)

b. Authorized by the Government

The following usually represents the Government and its instrumentalities:

1) Office of the Solicitor General;

2) LGU lawyers (provincial/city/municipal legal officer); and

3) Lawyers in GOCCs or Government agencies/offices.
